May Day Reminder: 🌸 Flowers That Are Toxic to Cats and Dogs

It’s May Day!

May Day is a time to celebrate spring, fresh blooms, and new beginnings — but if you share your home with cats or dogs, it’s also a time to decorate with care. 🌼

While flowers brighten up any space, some common spring favorites are actually toxic to our furry friends. Here are a few to watch out for:

  • Lilies (especially dangerous for cats — even a small nibble can cause kidney failure)

  • Tulips (the bulbs are the most toxic part)

  • Daffodils (can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and even heart issues)

  • Hyacinths (similar risks to tulips — ingestion can cause severe reactions)

  • Azaleas and Rhododendrons (small amounts can cause serious health problems)

Safer bloom options include roses, sunflowers, snapdragons, gerber daisy’s, and zinnias — all beautiful ways to celebrate the season without putting your pets at risk. 🌷🐾

If you suspect your cat or dog has eaten a toxic flower, contact your veterinarian immediately.

This May Day, spread kindness and love — but make sure your flower choices keep your pets safe too!

*Reminder -always do your research. The above is a short list.
